Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Will I get wet? Do you supply a rain jacket?

In jet boating at it's best, the spins throw a bit of water about, particularly if there is some wind around.  If the weather is cooler, or you really don't want to get wet, wear a warm, waterproof jacket for your trip.  While we do supply you with the mandatory life jacket, we don't supply a waterproof jacket so advise to bring your own.

Can I wear my glasses on the trip?

Yes!  We recommend wearing well-fitting sunglasses (that aren't loose on your head) and you are welcome to wear your prescription glasses.  If you're concerned your glasses may fall off, bring a glasses strap, or purchase one on arrival.

When should I check in for my jet boat ride?

The time of your jet boat ride is your departure time.  To avoid missing your ride, check-in at our base at least 15 minutes before your reserved time.  Running late?  Give us a call and we will try to get you on a later departure time.

Do I need to book ahead?

It's up to you, but we do recommend booking in a time slot to avoid having to wait for a ride (or missing out!) when you get here.  You can call us to book, or buy your tickets online through our website.

What age to children need to be to ride?

There is no lower age limit, but all passengers must be at least 1 metre (39 inches) tall to ride the boat.  At Hukafalls Jet, children are 15 years old or under.

A family ticket at Hukafalls Jet is for two adults and two children.

What should I wear?

In Winter we recommend:

  • Warm, waterproof jacket
  • Beanie or hat (nothing with a visor as these blow away on the first spin!)
  • Gloves (our handrails are heated)
  • Scarf or neckwarmer
  • Sunglasses
  • Shoes are required - any kind

In Summer:

  • Sunblock
  • Sunglasses
  • Shoes are required - any kind

*Tip for people with long hair - bring a hair tie.  80 km/h on a boat doesn't do your hair any favours!

What sizes are the life jackets?

It is mandatory to use an approved life jacket, provided by Hukafalls Jet on the jet boat.  We cater for just about any size from small children right up to a very roomy 4XL.  If you have any concerns, just drop us a line at reservations@hukafallsjet.com.

Can I wear my hearing aid in the boat?

It's not recommended to wear hearing aids on the boat.  The 360 spins tend to make them fly out!  If you would like to wear your hearing aid, wear a beanie or buff over the top to protect them from falling out.

Winter jet boating?

Yes, it does get a bit chilly in Taupo in winter, but it's still a great time to come jet boating with Hukafalls Jet! A little cold weather won't keep our drivers out of our fantastic boats. We do recommend that you come prepared in winter, with a woolly hat, sunglasses, and warm jacket. Also, don't forget your small digital camera or phone for that must have snap of the Huka Falls from below.

What days are you closed?

We are open every day of the year, including Christmas Day.

Can I film the trip?

We're sorry, handheld video cameras are not permitted.  Hands-free GoPro cameras are permitted (no selfie sticks!)

Do you go in all weather?

The only thing that stops us is heavy rain (makes it hard for the drivers to see where they're going, and plus at 80km/hr, rain on your face hurts) but the good thing is, it hardly rains here in Taupo! Even if it does rain on the day you visit, chances are, it won't last all day so you should be able to get you out on a ride.
