New records set for Hukafalls Jet locals weekend
The sun was shining, it was election day one day and we woke the next day to a new government and 816 Taupo locals came out in force for the Hukafalls Jet locals weekend. 
They were lucky enough to take a ride for a once a year price of only $20, and in turn helped support three local charitable causes. We raised $16320 from the jet boat rides which is approx $1000 more than last year's record and this will be split evenly between the Lake Taupo Volunteer Rural Fire Force, the Taupo branch of SPCA and Northwood Kindergarten. This year we are helping purchase a new pump for the volunteer fire fighters, sun shades for the kids to play under at Northwood Kindy and new sleeping boxes for the cats at the SPCA through our fundraising and we'd like to thank all the locals who came out to support the weekend.
The three charities also got in behind the fun atmosphere and provided loads of entertainment including screen printing and bead making, face painting, fire hose demonstrations and the cutest puppies were also on hand to cuddle. There was also plenty of yummy food to keep everyone satisfied, from sausage sizzles and burgers, to cup cakes and the famous Northwood Kindy banana, beetroot and courgette cake! An additional $2000 was raised by the charities on their stalls!
We're already fielding questions about next year's event which will be planned in November again. It's a great time of year to celebrate the onset of summer and give the locals a chance to experience one of the key tourism attractions in Taupo for a fraction of the normal price.
