A1GP heads to Taupo
A1GP World Cup of Motorsport heads to New Zealand for the first time in January (19-21) 2007. The magnificent Lake Taupo provides the backdrop for what could be one of the most spectacular races of the season. A1 Team New Zealand, one of the most consistent teams of season one, will battle it out on home turf on what is essentially a brand new circuit.
A1GP will be the largest international racing series to hit Taupo when the circus rolls into town in 2007. The new 3.5 km circuit, together with the brand new facilities and pit complex will be the perfect place for A1GP's first race in New Zealand.
The first race after the December / January break, emotions will be running high as A1GP kicks off the second half of the season in New Zealand. This is the point when championships hopes will come to the surface and the race for the World Cup of Motorsport really hots up.
Taupo Motorsport Park cnr Centennial Drive and Broadlands Rd A1GP is the first opportunity for nations to compete exclusively on a truly level playing field in the World Cup of Motorsport. All cars are built exactly the same and with a weight of 600Kg ready to run (minus fuel and driver) and with the ability to develop a maximum of 520bhp or 390Kw what you will see in Taupo will both spectacular and unprecedented in the history of motorsport in New Zealand. A1GP is more than just another motorsport phenomenon; it's an entirely new sport - The World Cup of Motorsport. Pitting driver against driver and country against country for the first time in history.
