Jet boat technology
Custom built in the Queenstown workshops of our parent company Shotover Jet, they are constructed of heavy gauge marine aluminium, the hulls are designed for strength, and manoeuvrability. The boats have unique tiered seating and carry 14 passengers with an uninterrupted view. The brand new Hukafalls Jet boats incorporate the very latest technology with improved safety features and black-box technology for improved maintenance and engine efficiency. They also have superior visibility thanks to tiered, ergonomically moulded seats which feature heated and hinged hand rails for enhanced comfort and safety.
Supercharged V6 Buick engines put out a combined 520hp, with twin Hamilton Jet units thrusting 800 litres of water per second. With a third more power, the new boats get their (up to) 14 passengers on the plane in around two seconds.
Hukafalls Jet technology
Unlike a conventional outboard, the jet unit utilises an internal impeller to provide propulsion. Water is drawn in through an inlet in the bottom of the boat and driven out through a nozzle at the rear with great force. Turning is accomplished by moving the nozzle laterally, braking and reverse are achieved by using a deflector similar to the reverse thrust bucket on a jet aircraft.
